Serpentine gallery
For the tenth consecutive year the Serpentine Gallery in London’s Kensington Gardens welcomed a renowned architect to design its summer pavilion. The eye-catching red sculpture designed by architect Jean Nouvel is made of steel, textiles and polycarbonate sheets.
The architectural design possibilities offered by polycarbonate multi-wall sheets made them the first choice for Jean Nouvel, as well as for the construction engineers (Arup, London) and the construction management firm (Mace-Group, London). The sheets are very sturdy yet highly flexible and thanks to its low weight the structure can withstand high winds and absorb wind-induced movement even without a massive sub-structure. The high light transmission ensures optimum lighting without shadows or extreme light-dark contrasts. A special UV layer filters harmful UV radiation while allowing photo-active radiation to pass through. The sheets can be easily sawed, drilled, or milled, allowing for a hassle-free and quick on-site tailoring.
