The PGE Arena Gdansk will play a central role in the 2012 UEFA European Football Championships and high tech polycarbonate sheets were utilised to create a dramatic architectural design and concept. The polycarbonate sheets are used for both roofing over the stands and the outer shell of the stadium – something that has never been done before. By installing the polycarbonate sheets horizontally the building’s outer façade, visible from miles away, is able to achieve its striking design. Every plate was hermetically sealed on the open edge to ensure that it was waterproof. Using innovative compounding technology every single sheet was coloured in one of six different colours ranging from white to amber to give off a reflection of amber, a hallmark of the region.
